now I need to remove the brake band (need to get to the journals) and to get the caliper off the motor. replacing caliper does not seem to bolt to the motor thats for sure. I also need to replace the main shaft, and then put the new shoes on...
I have clipped the brake housing and end cap remove. enough to get the brake band off. It will need some oiling and greasig. Opening and taking off clamp. I have the new stock in but still have to take off the band. Then reseal the clamp and bolt back on. Backing off the main shaft with the wrench. Taking off the brake, then the front of the drum. I’ve been advised from the owner to be very careful to not let it spin when u’re removing the inner drum leaving the end of the shaft clear. I just did that and it was pretty easy. Removing the old shoe patten is very easy. It comes off with an impacter type hammer. Replacing the old one is a bit tougher. You use a vise and a hammer to pry the shoes off. Putting new ones on is easy and just requires a longer spanner - who knew?????!!!!!!! ( I had them on when the caliper fell off the motor!) Replacing the spring is easy, and then reassembling the drum is a good job easy. Now just need to assemble it. I had two people with me, neither are handy, but I could get either of them to try again. Hopefully my mechanic friend is back to fix the head gasket, we will see how that goes!
Installed the winch back in, this time with a new clutch and brake band. A new bearing housing was also used. I need to access the bell housing so I can get to the bearings I backed off and cleaned up, and repaired the bell housing with a hammer and some chrome screws. After I get the bell housing repaired I can check the bearings. I don’t have the lathe for the bell housing yet so I may have to literally break it down if that’s the only way to get to those bearings.
Installed winch on a td8e. Tore it down to replace clutch and brake bands. Need specs to adjust clutch, also how much end play for the main shaft ( has shims on right side end of shaft. ) Anyone have a manual they would be willing to scan, or take a picture of, a few pages and send to me? Need to get in the woods while the weathers still good. Thanks, Jon d2c66b5586
