Mac OS: You can download Java from Apple Support Downloads (Java 6 and below). On Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) and above, Java 7 is available here or from this download page. See How do I get Java support for Mac? for more information.
If you don't need 64-bit Java, there is no reason to have it installed. If both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Java are installed, the Windows Control Panel will display only the 64-bit Java Control Panel. In such cases, you can access the 32-bit Java Control Panel for Java 7 by running C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe (press "Windows key + R" to open the Run box). Alternately, you can update Java using the manual update method (see below) by downloading the latest update. [36] [37]
If you have problems installing the latest version of Java, a user reports success installing Java online using Internet Explorer, after first completely uninstalling Java from his system. Opening Internet Explorer and then visiting a page that uses the Java plugin, such as this javatester.org page, should detect that Java isn't installed and offer to install it. Alternately, go to the Java.com download page using Internet Explorer and run the online installer (details here). [42] [43] [44]
I am currently using iCloud with my desktop computer (Vista and Outlook 2007) and my iPhone 3gs; works extremely well. I now have a new laptop and I want to use iCloud on that as well (Windows 7 and Outlook 2007). Primarily, I want to be able to access a common calendar and contacts on all three devices. I am reluctant to install the iCloud Control Panel on my laptop as I fear either the loss of all Calendar and Contact entries within iCloud and my Vista desktop, or may experience duplicated entries. Outlook is a new install on my laptop and I use it as an alternate to accessing multiple webmail sites, however, there is nothing in Contacts nor Calendar. If I install the control panel onto the laptop, will the already present Calendar and Contact populate from my iCloud account?
That being said, I performed redundant backups and exports of data on the desktop PC that already had the iCloud Control Panel installed to safeguard my investment in Outlook. I then focused on my laptop and the first thing I did was to clean my PC by deleting cookies, temporary files, and similar; something I do anyway, but wanted to have my situation as pristine as possible. I also created a restore point on the laptop. After all this was completed, then I downloaded the iCloud Control panel and installed it. Once installed, I logged in and started the Control Panel. The first thing I selected was Contacts and let the sync occur. I received a success notification and I opened Outlook and found ALL my contacts intact and without duplications. After that I performed the same steps for Calendar and obtained the same level of success. Having my iPhone upgraded to iOS5, my desktop and now my laptop with the iCloud Control Panel installed on both is REALLY cool! I have all my critical contact and calendar information equally accurate and up-to-date on all three devices! The only thing I do not perform on my laptop is iPhone synchronization, which is relegated to only one PC, my desktop and will remain that way.
Adobe Connect users are divided into three groups -- hosts, presenters and participants -- each with its built-in levels of privilege. (A host is someone who has complete control over the meeting; a presenter is selected by a host to talk or show slides.) The panels or "pods" displayed on-screen -- the video windows, the attendee list, the chat box, etc. -- are all replicated on each user's end. Pods are available for tasks like taking polls from the group, logging notes from just the presenters or the whole group, uploading files to be shared out to everyone, or taking written questions from participants in a moderated fashion.
Most of the programs in this roundup organize their multiple components -- the videos of participants, control panels, etc. -- in a single window. GoToMeeting has multiple floating windows, which can be immensely distracting. Webcams and video chat take place in one detached desktop window; the control panel for the meeting (which sports a lot of options) is in a second; and a third little floating panel holds icons for common functions like whiteboarding or camera/microphone control. The main control panel is divided into subpanels that can be expanded or collapsed so you can tuck away uneeeded options, but overall it feels a lot more cluttered and busy than it should. 2b1af7f3a8
