It was the aftermath of 9/11 that moved me to join the ACLU, when I saw our nation willing to sacrifice our defining freedoms to try to secure a sense of safety. Freedom is far too precious, our civil rights are far too dear, to throw away in panic in a time of fear. It still stuns me that the greatest threat to our freedoms comes from our own government and its officials. Arthur - FL
I am very disappointed that we are gradually losing our rights. Everyone but a few of us is not satisfied with what is going on. I am a fighter for my grandchildren rights and my. We are living in a sad time when no one is paying attention as what is going on. I will be a fighter until the end. I am a grandmother raising my two granddaughters. I am continuely expressing that you all will not have in rights. I tell them all the time you must vote and stand for something before you leave this world. Your constitution rights is all that you have. I beg them please wake up and fight for your freedom. I am 61 years old. I am shock at what is going on right in front of our eyes. Barbara - GA
Our \"fight against terror\" is more accurately termed a fight against the Constitution of The United States of America. As Josephine Baker stated decades ago, by the time we wake up and notice our rights are under attack, it will be too late. We, The People, know it is never too late, and we will not let you, our lawmakers, forget. Bonni - AL
Although ACLU's efforts are true and noble, and at the top of the heap when it comes to fighting for our rights and freedoms. I truly believe that there is only one way to rid ourselves of an invasion by corporations, their lobbyists and the typical meat-puppet politicians which sell out to the corporations long before they enter office. (excluding a small hand-full) This type of systemic fraud and misleading of the American people while stealing from us daily and murdering in our name and with our tax dollars for plain greed and corporate profit, and nothing more elegant than that, IS in fact, the very core and cancer of a great nation and \"democracy\". This act which is now allowed by our supreme court gives the greedy corporations the right to buy our \"leaders\". This is nothing short of treason - as described by our constitution - and we must rise and hold all accountable for such acts, and for the mass murder of millions of world citizens, including our own who continue to be misled into senseless wars for the advancement of big business. This change must include a free press, of which there is none of because mainstream media is also owned by the corporations. Evil lurks in darkness so, we must be sure that a free press will be there always, to serve as our beacon of light. Without it, there can be no democracy, but only the illusion of one. Thank you Felix - TX
Our country and its citizens may have gone through times of hardship in the past, and I'm sure will in the future. The bottom line is that if our country must fight an enemy such as \"terrrorism\", why create more terror in the hearts of our citizens by disabling our Constitutional rights of privacy along with the encouragement to not trust our neighbors. This will only create more fear and division between our fellow citizens. Remember two great quotes. \"United We Stand. Divided we fall.\" and \"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself\". How wonderful and timely to receive Anthony's email. As a first generation Sikh immigrant who witnessed the first post 9-11 murder of an innocent Sikh American with shock, horror and fear that we would repeat what was done to Japanese Americans during WWII, I am grateful EVERY DAY for the ACLU. The unprecedented violations that began under the Bush Administration, and many that continue under the Obama Administration, would largely go unchecked and unchallenged, but for the ACLU. Attacks on the immigrant community would largely go unchecked and unchallenged, but for the ACLU. The assault on women's reproductive rights (and in some corners on women's equality) would largely go unchecked and unchallenged, but for the ACLU. Discrimination against persons of color, the LGBT community, the disabled, and poor people would largely go unchecked and unchallenged, but for the ACLU. The continued (ridicuolous and misplaced) \"fight\" against crime and war on drugs (i.e. war on people of color) would largely go unchecked and unchallenged, but for the ACLU. The right to speech and assembly (even by those hated among us on the far right or far left) would be abridged, but for the ACLU. 9-11 is a time to mourn those who were lost but more importantly to revere those who fight every day, in every party of this great land, to protect our Constitution. Once again, I will be thanking the ACLU. Maganendra - CA
My commitment is stronger than ever to those who died on that tragic day ten years ago. It's a commitment to keep pressure on the Obama Administration to bring an end both wars, Iraq and Afghanistan. A commitment to speak truth to power and to fight for the rights of those who don't have any. A commitment to always shine a light on the abuses of those in power, regardless of who they are. A commitment to spread the word about the dangers of unchecked use of power by those in government. My commitment to defend human rights all over the world is and will always be there. Roberto - CA
The vote results in a special June election were overwhelming. It was the largest turnout in any special election in the history of Dade County. Voters supported repealing the gay rights ordinance by a margin of more than two to one. Bryant danced a jig when the response was announced, and told reporters \"All America and all the world will hear what the people have said, and with God's continued help, we will prevail in our fight to repeal similar laws throughout the nation which attempt to legitimize a life style that is both perverse and dangerous\".[45] National Gay Task Force (NGTF) co-director Jean O'Leary said that the result was \"all the evidence anyone could need of the extent and virulence of prejudice against lesbians and gay men in our society\".[45]
It might seem simple or even over-redundant, but you should still be asking the questions you (hopefully) were asking pre-pandemic: \"How was your day\" \"How are you feeling\" (Or, \"I notice you seem [insert emotion here], what's going on\") \"What can I do to better support you through this\" And while you're at it, say \"thank you\" and be specific: \"I really appreciate when you do [insert that great thing they do],\" or \"thank you for seeing I was losing it and stepping in with [insert that great save they made].\" The more you start spelling out what you're grateful for, the more you will find things to be grateful for. As for your partner: it never hurts to hear you're appreciated, and they might just return the favor. In the end, this time together could actually make you closer. (Take a look at the next question, too, for pointers about how to start a good conversation with your partner.)
In 2003 Weddington talked with Texas Monthly magazine regarding her concern about preserving a woman's reproductive rights, which was inspired by her own experience of crossing the border in order to obtain an abortion, accompanied by her future husband: \"We made an appointment and drove to Mexico. I will never forget following a man in a white guayabera shirt down an alley, and Ron and I having no idea where we were headed. I can still remember going under the anesthetic and then waking up later in a hotel room with Ron. Driving back I felt fine; I didn't have any complications. But it made me appreciate what other women went through, who did not have someone to go with them or did not have the money to pay for a medically safe abortion, as I did. Later, I heard stories of women who had not been so lucky.\"
Later, Nico unexpectedly meets Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Grover at the Triple G Ranch. He'd entered the ranch to discuss finding the soul he needed with Geryon. Percy and his friends went to the ranch due to the chance Nico might be there. When Nico sees them, he is furious, pulled out his sword, and said they let Bianca die and they will kill him as well, but Percy reassured him that was not the case. Though he was still angry, he put away the sword after Geryon ordered him to, but told Percy to not come near him or his helpers would hurt him. Later, Nico became angry at Geryon after he showed him and the others his stables instead of discussing the soul he needed. Percy tried to ask him about it but Nico refused to give information, only saying it wasn't Percy. Geryon ended up imprisoning Nico and the others, threatening to sell Nico to Luke Castellan unless Percy cleaned his stables. Nico didn't want Percy to save him but he did anyway.
In Arachne's lair, when Percy tries to save Annabeth from falling into Tartarus, Percy catches hold of a ledge just in time. Nico tries to help, but he is out of reach. Annabeth tells Percy to let go, but Percy says that he will not lose her again. Percy tells Nico that they will meet the rest of the seven and Nico on the other side of the Doors, and makes him promise to lead the others to the mortal side. Nico promises and Percy lets go, allowing the dark gravity of Tartarus to pull him and Annabeth in. During a meeting on the Argo II, Nico admits that Percy is the most powerful demigod he has ever met and with Annabeth there with him, they will survive. He believes that if anyone could make it through Tartarus, it would be them. He assures Leo that both Percy and Annabeth are still alive.
At The House of Hades, Nico gives Jason the chalice first to drink and asks him if he trusts him, which he does without hesitation, signifying that he trusted Nico. At the battle, Nico and Jason stick by each other and Jason catches Nico and protects him from falling at one point. Jason and Piper stood at Nico's back and protected him while he was summoning ghosts with the scepter. Jason even promoted Frank to Praetor after Nico suggested he do so. The two also helped save Hazel and Leo. When Nico says he is going with Reyna to retrieve the Athena Parthenos, Jason said he didn't doubt his strength, but was still skeptical, but after Nico said he had changed since Tartarus, Jason trusts him and knows he will be okay. 153554b96e
