The Amek's layout does mean, though, that you are given full access to the 24 channels. The analogue mixer and even the in-line mixer controls have full recall, while there is a full set of mutes and faders in both the analogue and the in-line mixers. The only place where this is not the case is in the stereo busses, where there are only the faders for gain and panning. This is a bit of a limitation, but it is a limitation that can be overcome with some extra software and hardware.

For the price of a good studio's console, the Amek Virtual Dynamics (TM) comes complete with a top-notch mixing console, a powerful automation system with full recall, a modern in-line mixer housed in a very compact worksurface, a stereo output buss and a high-quality headphone out. In fact, it comes with a collection of nineteen busses, three balanced mixer outputs and two stereo buss outputs, as well as the second highest quality analogue headphone output, meaning that it will work anywhere in the studio without any problem.

It's pretty clear to see that there's a strong leaning towards the 24-channel format, and for the most part, that's a good thing. It is possibly the only mixer that incorporates the full 24-channel, analogue format, and having that many channels available makes the Virtual Dynamics (TM) a very versatile console, but the 24-channel format has it's disadvantages too. 24-channels is about as many channels as you'll ever need in the studio, but there's only so much room in a console, especially when you're working with a complete set of mono busses! The Amek's layout does, however, give you access to the full 24 channels without a problem, but it would seem that the console would need to be entirely redesigned to incorporate a 24-channel format. This is something that, to my knowledge, has never been done, which is kind of strange when you consider the console's size and its layout.
